Area Report:

March 18, 2018 – 6:55am

The Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance President has contacted all 11 Clubs.  The recommendation from these 11 Clubs to the Vilas County Park & Recreation Administrator is to close the trails either Monday or Tuesday of this next week.

20 degrees this morning with a high of 45.  Evil sun out.

As for the trails in Eagle River, Sno-Eagles Trails are POOR with some FAIR areas.  In town trails have very little snow & are snirty.  The base is hard on some of the “grade” but there is also crusty base & frozen dirt in the AM & mushy conditions in the afternoon.  At road crossings little or no snow on them.

In woods trails particularly way out east & north are FAIR.   That would be 6 to 10 miles or more out of town & under the cover of trees. Getting to them would mean a lot of adventure sledding to get there however.  Trailering & dropping off to ride is a good bet.

Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trails are marked with orange easy to see reflective barrels.  Please stay by the barrels to be safe.  At the entrance to Eagle Lake on the south side off of Dollar Lake Rd there are some soft spots.  Trail Boss is keeping an eye on it.  Reminder that the Catfish Lake Trail that ran from Braywood to Lumpy’s is not open.  Please do not trespass on private land.

If you are going to ride today the best riding will be along the far north edge of the County heading east & west.  Recommend calling contacts up there or checking trails reports for those areas.

The Fat Lady is warming up.
