EAGLE RIVER TRAILS – UPDATE
All Conditions on average GOOD
Total of 5-6+- inches of SNOW in the last couple days. Forecast for 2+ more. LEF SNOW right now which is a bonus. Cold one this morning. High of 20 today. Then a March bounce up to 35 tomorrow during the day. Teens at night until Tuesday then 20’s at night. SNOW in the forecast for Wednesday & Thursday. Get out & ride it when we got it.
With the sleety rain a couple of days ago the base is even thicker than it was. Cold night time temps are helping that. SNOW on top. Trails are in really GOOD shape in the woods. Pretty GOOD everywhere else too. Did find some crusty areas. With the hard ice underneath it’s “fast” & slippery so slow down. Reports from other riders throughout the Vilas county reporting pretty much the same. Low traffic so it’s a great time to ride! It’s getting late in the season so ride when we got it. Trail can stay open until midnight March 31st.
No grooming last night. All trails were groomed prior to the sleet a couple nights ago. Then the new SNOW. For now to prevent damage the heavy equipment is parked. Stay tuned.
With the number of accidents & fatalities this season will keep reminding you:
When you come upon a group of sleds in front of you on the trail. Passing them can get you in trouble. Have been seeing this all winter. When an entire group passes, by the time the last sled passes, a sled could be coming from the other direction.
Remember as you ride & meet a groomer the equipment is NOT able to leave the trail due to it’s weight. Pull over & stop. Wait for direction from the driver. Give ’em a thumbs up. They groom so we can ride!
Please ride on the right side, slow down, limit alcohol & no off trail riding.
The barrels have been removed from Catfish & Eagle Lake trails. There was a lot of slush on both lakes. Didn’t want to wait for the barrels to freeze with the cold snap.
